People often think that building a chicken coop is tough and time consuming and in the end decide to purchase a pre-built one.  While for some people this may be their only option, but for others it could be a more costly investment rather than building a chicken coop themselves.  Building a chicken coop is not as hard as many people believe and is certainly a manageable task given the proper plans.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW

When it comes to building a chicken coop you should always consider safety as a major factor.  A chicken coop is essentially a safe haven for your chickens, a home, a retreat and a place for protection.  In addition to the coop itself when you are planning on building a chicken coop you will also need to look into the outside run area being safe and free of any dangers that could affect your chickens.

Along with size, you should also understand what materials are best for your area when building a chicken coop.  Know how many chickens you intend to raise and what size coop best fit that need.  For instances, 10 chickens would require a large size coop.  Giving your chickens the proper space will not only assist in raising healthier chickens but also the quantity of eggs they produce.

It’s always best to make sure you purchase good quality materials when building a chicken coop.  Since you will want the structure to hold up during bad weather, along with not wanting to make regular repairs, good quality materials are essential.  But always factor in your climate and the weather changes in your area when choosing what kind of materials to use.
