Do Chickens go to the bathroom in their own food?
Yes, it is important that you keep their food clean and fresh. They are not specific on where they will go to the bathroom.
Is their feed enough or do I have to supplement their diet with other things?
It is recommended that you offer them worms or bugs along with other treats. See What Do Chickens Eat.
Are they dirty?
Depends on your care but no and upkeep of the chicken coop.
Are chickens loud?
Not really, they tend to make small squawking sounds but otherwise no, they are not loud like roosters.
How old are hens when they start laying eggs?
Hens start to lay eggs at 6 months
How many eggs can I expect to get each day?
On average if you have a good warm coop and a good egg laying hen about 1 egg a day. However, in the colder months is it important to keep your coop very warm to keep up with the eggs laying. The colder the hen is the less eggs you will receive.
Your chicken will be at its peak for egg laying for about 2 years on average, so if you are keeping her for egg producing you can count on about 2 years, after that they can live up to 8-10 years, but some have been said to live as long as 20 years if you keeping them as pets.
Can you eat fertilized eggs?
Yes. It will only grow into a baby chick under the right circumstances. There will be not difference in the look or the taste of the egg unless the baby has started to grow and if you put the eggs in your refrigerator this can not happen.
How long would it take for a fertile egg to hatch?
Around 21 days
What kind of things can be used as toys for chickens?
Cabbage hung from a rope
